    I’ll be getting my NC10 tomorrow and want to run either Ubuntu UNR or Windows 7 RC. Which one will give me the best user experience on this hardware?

    I am also installing 2 GB or ram as soon as it arrives.

    I use both Ubuntu 9.04 and Vista SP2 on my desktops and laptops so I am familiar with both, just want to know what folks think runs best on the NC10. Factors such as perceived speed, driver support and so forth.

    I liked the Ubuntu UNR user interface and it seemed to boot pretty fast from a USB stick when I tried it.
    But I believe there are still performance issues with the Intel Graphics chips. A workaround is detailed in this post;

    Also beware that installing Linux/Win7 will remove the custom MBR of the Samsung and hence prevent the FN4 recover feature from working,

    There is a nice third party repository for Ubuntu (should work with distros based on Ubuntu as well) which fixes a lot of minor things such as the wireless switch.

    Also Mint 7 runs pretty well and is based on Ubuntu.

    Actually both Windows 7 and Mint 7 are working well on my NC10.

    I suspect that W7 needs 2 GB RAM whereas MInt would probably get away with just 1 GB. Also, if you have some Windows software which you can’t live without then you may be better of with W7.

    It’s free with the system and it’s ready to please.

    (Yeah, it wasn’t one of the options given, but it’d be my choice. From the options, I’d try Win7 first. My next netbook/laptop will probably come with it, after all.)

    I am running XP as well. I don’t like it enough to compose poetry about it, but it works just fine :~)
